Tackle Feature: MirrOlure Surface Lures

In this issue, we have chosen to feature three surface MirrOlure lures: the MirrOlure “floating twitch bait”, the “surface walker” and the “surface popper.”  These lures are designed to create a lot of surface commotion.  This is achieved in a variety of ways all with the same aim:  to attract predators!  The basic concept behind surface lures is to mimic bait fish under attack, scuttling across the surface of the water.  The ruckus created by MirrOlure surface lures is a sure-fire way to get the big ones striking and biting!

MirrOlures are infamous for their use of “mirror” technology and patterns to produce flashy, highly-visible, durable artificial baits.  Couple that with a handful of tricks and you’ve got a lure irresistible to hungry fish.

When casting these lures, be sure to use the “walking-the-dog” retrieval technique.  Make a long cast as possible.  Then retrieve the lure back to you in a straight line while twitching your rod tip, making the lure dance quickly from side-to-side.  If you are using the MirrOlure Top Dog Jr. or Popa Dog, each time you pop your rod tip, you will hear a “fish-calling” click, coming from the low frequency sonic rattle embedded in the lure’s echo chamber.

Though ideal for casting, these lures can also be used when slow trolling at a speed of 4 knots.  MirrOlure also carries larger trolling lures which are better suited to those recreational fishermen chasing after monsters!

MirrOlures are available at The Tackle Shop, Point Cumana in a wide variety of colours and styles.
